(HPWS), and the HSBC InvestDirect division within HSBC Securities (Canada) Inc. (HIDC) (“we” refers to AMG, HIFC, HPWS, and HIDC collectively), each of which are subsidiaries of HSBC Bank Canada. The commentary provides a high level overview of the recent economic environment, and is for information purposes only. It is a marketing communication and does not constitute investment advice or a recommendation to any reader of this content to buy or sell investments nor should it be regarded as investment research. It has not been prepared in accordance with legal requirements designed to promote the independence of investment research and is not subject to any prohibition on dealing ahead of its dissemination.

The contents of these reports may not be reproduced or further distributed to any person or entity, whether in whole or in part, for any purpose or otherwise, without the prior written permission of AMG. All non-authorized reproduction or use of these reports will be the responsibility of the user and may lead to legal proceedings.

The material contained in market commentary is for general information purposes only and does not constitute advice or a recommendation to buy or sell investments. Some of the statements contained within the reports may be considered forward-looking statements which provide current expectations or forecasts of future events. Such forward-looking statements are not guarantees of future performance or events and involve risks and uncertainties. Actual results may differ materially from those described in such forward-looking statements as a result of various factors. We do not undertake any obligation to update the forward-looking statements contained in the reports, or to update the reasons why actual results could differ from those projected in the forward-looking statements. Market commentary has no contractual value and is not by any means intended as a solicitation, nor a recommendation for the purchase or sale of any financial instrument in any jurisdiction in which such an offer is not lawful. The views and opinions expressed in the reports are those of AMG at the time of preparation, and are subject to change at any time. These views may not necessarily indicate current portfolios' composition. Individual portfolios managed by AMG or HSBC Global Asset Management (Canada) Limited (AMCA) primarily reflect individual clients' objectives, risk preferences, time horizon, and market liquidity.

The value of investments and the income from them can go down as well as up and investors may not get back the amount originally invested. Past performance contained in the market commentary is not a reliable indicator of future performance whilst any forecasts, projections and simulations in the report should not be relied upon as an indication of future results. Where overseas investments are held, the rate of currency exchange may cause the value of such investments to go down as well as up. Investments in emerging markets are by their nature higher risk and potentially more volatile than those inherent in some established markets. Economies in emerging markets generally are heavily dependent upon international trade and, accordingly, have been and may continue to be affected adversely by trade barriers, exchange controls, managed adjustments in relative currency values and other protectionist measures imposed or negotiated by the countries with which they trade. These economies also have been and may continue to be affected adversely by economic conditions in the countries in which they trade.

Quartile Rankings

All information related to quartile rankings is supplied by Morningstar. This information is provided for informational purposes only. Past performance is not indicative of future performance. This information is not an offer to sell or the solicitation of an offer to purchase or subscribe for any investment. Although HSBC Global Asset Management (Canada) Limited (“AMCA”) believes the information is reliable, AMCA has not independently verified such information. Accordingly, AMCA, its affiliates and subsidiaries, make no guarantee, representation or warranty and accept no responsibility or liability as to its accuracy or completeness, or for any action taken in reliance thereon. The information is that of Morningstar only and is subject to change without notice. Investors are strongly recommended to consult their investment advisor before considering a specific investment.

Quartile rankings are determined by Morningstar Research Inc., an independent research firm, based on categories maintained by the Canadian Investment Funds Standards Committee (CIFSC). Quartile rankings are comparisons of the performance of a fund to all other funds in a particular category. The quartiles divide the data into four equal segments expressed in terms of rank (1, 2, 3 or 4). Morningstar quartile rankings show how well a fund has performed compared to all other funds in its peer group. Each fund within a peer group is ranked based on its performance, and these rankings are broken into quarters or quartiles. Within a group, the top 25% (or quarter) of the funds are in the first quartile, the next 25% are in the second quartile, the next group in the third quartile, and the bottom 25% of funds with the poorest relative performance are in the fourth quartile.

The ratings are subject to change every month. The ratings are calculated for funds with a minimum of 3 years of performance, from a weighted average of the funds' 3, 5 and 10 year average annual returns (as available) measured against a 91-day Treasury Bill return with appropriate fee adjustments and peer group returns. The top 10% of the funds in a category receive 5 stars (high); if the funds fall in the next 22.5%, they receive 4 stars (above average); a place in the middle 35% earns a fund 3 stars (neutral or average); those in the next 22.5% receive 2 stars (below average); and the lowest 10% get 1 star (low). Ratings are just one factor to consider when investing. For more information, please see www.morningstar.ca.

We do not monitor the implementation or ongoing appropriateness of the suggested strategies described in any Wealth Plan or any announced or actual changes in law, regulations or policy that may impact a Wealth Plan.

Projections in Wealth Plans are based on certain assumptions, which may turn out to not be accurate, applicable or reflective of the client’s real life experience. The use of any historical rates of return, inflation, and taxation should not be relied upon, as past performance is not indicative of future performance. Wealth Plans may include general information on certain tax, legal, investment, insurance and estate planning topics, however they should not be relied on for professional advice or as a personalized tax and estate planning service. A Wealth Planner may introduce clients to individuals within HSBC who can assist with certain investment strategies; however, clients are solely responsible for engaging their own qualified professional advisors, as necessary, before making any decisions about the suggested strategies in a Wealth Plan.
